Grant Writing Brown Bag Workshop Schedule for Academic Year 2008/2009

Ballantine Family Fund: The Ballantine Family Fund is a local foundation established for the purpose of giving financial assistance to no profit, charitable, educational, literary, scientific, or other causes that better the human condition. Grant size has ranged from $500 to $5,000. Proposals are due on a quarterly basis and must be received by January 1, April 1, July 1, or Ocotober 1 to be considered for funding. Nancy Whitson, the Executive Director, will present the Fund's grant guidelines, describe the types of projects that they fund, and answer questions. |

Grant Budgets - Proposal Preparation: Participants will be able to construct effective proposal budgets including direct costs and indirect costs. Participants will better understand what expenses are allowable and unallowable for a grant, contract or cooperative agreement and where to obtain additional information for accurately projecting costs. Federal regulations and College requirements will be presented. The principles of cost sharing, subcontracting, and matching funds will also be discussed. If you are working on a grant budget please bring it to the workshop. |

Grants.Gov: Participants will become familiar with the process of using Grants.Gov to apply for funds. This workshop will feature a demonstration of how to download PureEdge Viewer and how to select and download federal grant application packages from Grants.Gov. Effective at year end of 2006, all federal agencies (National Science Foundation, Dept of ED, BLM, Forest Service, and all others) are required to use this site for their federal grant competitions and contracts. |

Effort Reporting: Designed for participants that have active grants that require time and effort reporting. Theresa will go over the new system for effort reporting and the responsibilities of the PIs to ensure accuracy. |

Electronic Grant Budget Tracking Systems (aka Banner): Participants will learn how to track their grant budget expenditures in Banner to have up to date knowledge of funds remaining in the grant, as well as tracking payments of such items, like student stipends. Participants should know their budget code and ensure that they have access to it via Banner before the workshop. |

Proposal Preparation - Writing Grant Narratives: Participants will learn the basics of creating a need or problem statement using relevant data and statistics to increase your project's creditability and accountability. We will also address writing proposal goals, objectives and how this all relates to the methods, activities, and the increasingly important evaluation. Participants will learn the common formats of presenting goals and objectives, and evaluations. If you have a grant that you are working on, please bring it to the workshop. |
