Frequently asked questions about advising and registration:
Why do I have to be advised?
All degree-seeking students are required to be advised in order to ensure adherence to the requirements of their particular degree programs.
How do I find out who my advisor is?
That information can be found in your Webopus account under Student Records-Advising Information or can also be released to you by Registrar's Office personnel upon presentation of a photo i.d..
What is an alternate PIN?
An alternate PIN is a six-digit number accessible by your advisor during the weeks prior to registration. This number is semester-specific and must be used to initially access the registration form on Webopus. Alternate PINs can only be issued by advisors and may not be released by any other college staff member. All classified, degree-seeking students have alternate PINs.
I can't reach my advisor and need to get registered. Is there another way to get my alternate PIN?
If you are unable to reach your advisor, you will need to contact another full-time faculty member to advise you. That faculty member will then need to notify the Registrar's Office that you have been advised. Registrar's Office personnel are authorized to release alternate PINs to faculty members who have advised students other than their own advisees. You may also make an appointment with a staff member in the Academic Advising and Student Success Center (ASC) to be advised; however, you will still need to reach your assigned advisor or work with another faculty advisor to actually receive your alternate PIN.
Note: Since many faculty advisors are off campus during the summer (May 1 to September 1), ASC staff are authorized to advise you and release your alternate PIN during these months. They will email your assigned faculty advisor to document that you have been advised. Call (970) 247-7085 to schedule an advising appointment.
Why can't I log in to Webopus using my alternate PIN?
The alternate PIN is used to access the registration form only. To log in to Webopus, you need to use the permanent PIN issued to you upon acceptance to Fort Lewis College or the number to which you have changed your original PIN.
I've registered and need to make changes to my schedule but have lost my alternate PIN. What do I do?
Once you've completed your initial registration, your alternate PIN is void and is no longer necessary to access the registration form.
I need to make changes to my schedule but I'm not able to log on to Webopus. Why not?
Remember that registration proceeds according to an earned credit rotation. All holds on your record must also be released prior to registration. If you have a past-due balance, outstanding college transcripts, missing immunization records or other issues that have not been resolved, you will be unable to complete your registration. If you have disabled your Webopus account, you must contact either Information Technology (IT) or the Registrar's Office.
I'm trying to add a class but Webopus won't let me. Why not?
For any unsuccessful attempt at registration, Webopus will list an error message on the far right side of the registration form. Make sure you scroll all the way over to read the message. This error message will tell you what kind of override you will need from the instructor such as "prerequisite/test score" or "class level", etc.. All overrides except "closed class" and "time conflict" should be entered electronically by the instructor. Remember: overrides entered by the instructor do NOT register you for the course. You must still log in to Webopus and complete your registration there. If you need a "closed class" or "time conflict" override, you should pick up a Special Condition Add Form from the Registrar's Office and have the instructor sign the form.
I turned in my Petition for Candidacy for a Degree but Webopus is not allowing me to register during the senior rotation. Why not?
Only students who completed and submitted their Petition for Candidacy for a Degree by the deadline stated on the form and who have previously earned 80 credits (not counting current registration) will be allowed to register during the Petitioning Senior rotation. Students who completed and submitted a petition after the deadline will register beginning with the 79 credits + group.
How can I verify my enrollment at the college?
Contact the Registrar's Office at (970) 247-7375 or visit us in person to request this information. All enrollment verification requests must be made in writing with a student signature and require approximately 3 to 5 days for processing. Verifications of enrollment are also available for a fee through National Student Clearinghouse at www.studentclearinghouse.org.
