SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION CERTIFICATION

Colorado House Bill 1021 (effective July 1, 1987) requires all males between 18 and 26 years of age to certify that they have registered with Selective Service before enrolling in any state-supported institution in Colorado.  To certify this, males need to complete the Selective Service Registration Certification Form.  This form is collected by the Registrar's Office and recorded on each male student’s record that he has complied with the Military Selective Service Act and has registered with Selective Service.

During the beginning of the Fall and Winter semesters, emails with the certification form attached are sent to those individuals who are not coded as having registered with Selective Service.  At the same time, a registration hold is placed on their record.  Additionally, any male who has not registered by his 26th birthday is ineligible to receive federal grants, such as Pell Grants, or federally subsidized loans, such as Stafford Loans.  Failure to register can also result in the loss of job training and federal job opportunities, as well as the chance to obtain U.S. citizenship.

If you are a male between the ages of 18 and 26 and have a registration hold on your record, you can click here for a copy of the certification form.  Print out the form and either bring it to the Registrar's Office, 160 Miller Student Center or mail it to: Fort Lewis College, Registrar's Office, 1000 Rim Dr, Durango, CO  81301-3999.

If you first need to register with the Selective Service, you can register on-line at http://www.sss.gov.  This is the web site for the Selective Service System (SSS) and includes extensive information and answers to most questions concerning the SSS.  After you register with the SSS, be sure to go to the web page listed above to then complete and submit the Selective Service Certification Form.
