At Fort Lewis. Fort Lewis art students come from a diversity of backgrounds and represent a wide range of artistic interests. There are many ways to participate in the department's vibrant art community, including joining student-run organizations like the Art Club, contributing to the arts and literary journal Images, attending visiting artist talks, participating in frequent students shows, and attending monthly art openings in the department's two galleries.

After Fort Lewis. Alumni of the department have become practicing artists, teachers, architects, graphic designers, fashion designers, advertisers, and gallery and museum administrators. Many continue their education after Fort Lewis, completing graduate degrees in art or art-related fields, attending artist-in-residence programs and completing internships.
