This manual is for those students who have decided to be an English major. There are four different English major options:
You will need to decide which English major you want to pursue, declare your major and find an advisor with whom to work:
Look over the attached list of requirements for each option, the suggested sequence of courses and the checklist of general studies courses. Work with your advisor to plan your schedule of English courses, general studies courses and electives.
When you are assigned library research, you may want to begin by consulting the list of resources in our field that are included in this manual. This list is meant to be a starting point for your research.
Another important thing you should do is to go to the Career Services Office, upstairs from the Records Office in Miller. This office can help you with such things as job search information, resumé writing, interviewing and assessment. General information on Career Services is included in the back of this manual. The English Department also has books available on career opportunities in English, writing and communications.
We hope this manual will be of assistance as you plan your academic program and prepare for your career.
