Rochelle Mann, Interim Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Fort Lewis College, holds degrees from Indiana University and Arizona State University, where her studies included both flute performance and music education. Named the college’s Featured Scholar in 2003, Dr. Mann served as department chair for seven of her 22 years as a professor in the Department of Music. Dr. Mann performs frequently as a soloist throughout the Southwest and as Principal Flute with the San Juan Symphony. She has also performed with the Santa Fe Symphony, Aurora Symphony, Four Corners Opera Orchestra, Albuquerque Philharmonic, Showcase Concert Series, Melkus Early Music Ensemble, Animas Chamber Music Festival, Serenata, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra. Her solo and chamber concerts have taken her throughout the United States, Russia, Poland, Estonia, Austria, and France. A strong advocate
for quality music education at all levels, Dr. Mann is frequently in
international demand as a clinician and guest conductor. She taught public
school music in Indiana, Colorado, on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico, and
continues to conduct graduate teacher training workshops throughout the US. She
currently conducts the Durango Children’s Chorale, and performed with them at
Lincoln Center in 2002. She is also a program author for Silver Burdett/Scott
Foresman’s textbook series Making Music (ã2005),
and developed a curriculum based on Making Music that was implemented by
the Southern Ute Head Start Program. Her other publications include several
works for children's voices as well as articles promoting innovative teaching
techniques.
