What Do We Do?
The purpose of the Fort Lewis College Writing Center is to give you a place where you can come for help with any writing assignment or project for any class. From generating ideas, to establishing an organizational structure, to polishing a final draft, you can improve your work by talking it over one-on-one with one of the Writing Center's faculty or peer tutors.
Our goal is to build better writers--at any level. Our hope in building better writers, then, is for students to leave the Writing Center with new skills. These are the skills that will lead to more independence as you become more confident with your writing and analytical thinking. Due to the subjective nature of writing, feedback from others is invaluable at any stage. So, come on in and visit us. Most students find that once they walk in the door, they come back again.
Where Are We and How Does it Work?
We have two locations, adjacent in Sage 105b and Sage 105c. In the main Writing Center, 1/2 hour appointments are available by calling in advance or by signing up in advance on the sheet posted outside the door. We will also take drop-in appointments here, as long as the tutor on duty is free. In the Writing Center Annex, right next-door, we operate on a drop-in only basis. Don't forget to check both locations if you are in a bind!
What Can You Do to Prepare for an Appointment?
Our service is absoluetly free, so simply bring your Fort Lewis i.d. and the assignment guidelines that were provided by your instructor. The text or texts you are using can also be helpful. If possible, come with specific questions about your work. But if you aren't even sure where those questions start, that's okay--once again that is why we are here.
Contact Us
If you have a question, please ask! Just type whatever you are wondering about and send it to writingcenter@fortlewis.edu. One of our tutors will get back to you within two business days. We cannot review entire papers online at this time. We're here in person for that!
