POLICY 4-2 EMPLOYEES' CHILDREN ON CAMPUS
- Issued: 4-10-81
- Revised: 4-00
- Approved:

I. PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to define and codify policy regarding employees' children on campus during work hours.
II. GENERAL
Fort Lewis College values the role of families in the lives of the employees of the College and has worked to develop policies and benefits that are supportive of balancing work and family life. It is recognized that there are those times under emergency conditions when it is absolutely necessary for an employee of the College to have a child in their care for brief periods of time. This is not the issue addressed in this policy. This policy is for those situations where it may become a standard practice.
III. POLICY
A. Except in emergencies, or when the purpose of the visit is to attend classes or to participate in activities specifically scheduled for their benefit, it is the policy of the college that it is inappropriate for minor children of employees to be present at an employee's workplace (e.g., office, classroom or shop) in lieu of other child care arrangements during the employee's working hours.
B. During situations when an employee's child must be present at the employee's workplace it is expected that a professional and productive work environment will be maintained. It is further expected that consideration of and safety for the child(ren), co-workers, and other campus residents will be maintained.
