POLICY 11-4 ON-CAMPUS SOLICITATION

I. PURPOSE
This policy defines the provisions for solicitation, vending, or sales allowed on the Fort Lewis College campus.
II. GENERAL
There is no solicitation, vending, or sales allowed on the Fort Lewis College campus (including the residence halls), except for provisions listed below. Solicitation is defined as the request for information, marketing, sales, or business offers. Vending is defined as any transaction that involves campus facilities, equipment, space or furnishings and the exchange of money for an item. A sale is defined as any transaction that involves the exchange of money for an item.
III. EXCEPTIONS
A. Approval may be granted in the following circumstances:
1. Representatives of the business community who have been invited or approved by the Office of Human Resources for the purpose of promoting an employee benefits plan.
2. Solicitations made on behalf of the United Way Campaign.
3. Solicitations made on behalf of Fort Lewis College and/or its affiliated foundation and associations.
4. Services contracted by FLC for specific services such as food service, beverage/snack vending machines, or long-distance phone card services.
5. Limited solicitation, vending, and sales are allowed at the College Union Building with appropriate approval from the Union and Activities Office. Organizations granted this approval must follow the rules and procedures as listed by the Events Planning Office located in 106 CUB.
B. Approval will not be granted in the following circumstances:
1. Any activity that competes with existing campus businesses (such as postal service or bookstore) or businesses with which FLC has entered into an exclusive contract (such as food service, beverage/snack vending, or long-distance phone service).
2. Due to state and/or federal laws and significant social issues, the solicitation, vending or sales of certain items will be prohibited at all times. These include, but are not limited to the following: credit cards, drug paraphernalia, and cigarettes.
C. The Vice President for Finance and Administration must approve any exception to this policy. |
