Students, you may have heard the notion that you should take responsibility for your learning. This idea gets a little stronger when we move into online learning.
At this time at FLC, Moodle is an enhancement to the face-to-face class, not a replacement for your scheduled classes. That said, here are a few tips that may help you succeed in your learning goals - and you should really develop your own learning goals.
Understand what is expected of you for your class work.
Develop your own learning goals outcomes. Learn syllbus details, the items you are responsible for, due dates, other project guidelines, grading schemes, etc. This is a skill that will help you in your work teams at school, and at your jobs outside of school.
Manage your time well.
We're not saying "don't party or socialize", "don't catch a show" or "don't rehearse your music". What we are saying is that you shouldn't wait till the last minute to turn in an assignment in Moodle, or take a quiz, post to the forum, etc. Sometimes, the server might think it's time to close the quiz session at 10 minutes till the time you thought it would close. Or your instructor doesn't see you are "in progress' and dings your grade because he or she thinks you blew it off.
Collaborate with other classmates and the larger community.
Asking others in the class if they get it, or being a resource for someone who doesn't get it will help you in the long run. Seek out a Mentor who is successful at doing the work you want to be doing. Offer your expertise in a work group, or step up and offer to take on a task when you know you are more capable.
These are just a few ideas to help you start thinking about getting more from your time here.
