Dial-Up Instructions

Dial-up instructions are for off-campus users only. On-campus users should have an ethernet card.

NOTICE: Windows NT 4.0 is an advanced operating system, and beginning users may experience extremely adverse functioning.  These instructions are very rudimentary, and should be used only if you are very comfortable in the Windows NT 4.0 operating environment.  If you are not comfortable with this operating system, we suggest the installation or upgrade of your system to use Windows 2000 or ME (Millennium Edition)

STEP 1: SETTING UP A NEW DIAL INSTANCE

Double click My Computer

Double click Dial-Up Networking

Click New under Phonebook entry to dial:

The New Phonebook Entry Wizard should start

STEP 2: CONFIGURE YOUR PHONEBOOK ENTRY

Pick a name for the connection (FLC makes sense) and type it in the Name the new phonebook entry box.

Press Next

In the next window, check the first two boxes:

- I am calling the Internet

- Send my plain text password if that’s the only way to connect

Press Next

Type 247-7299 in the Phone number: box.

Press Next

Press Finish

Press Dial to test your connection.

To use your connection at a later time, Double click on My Computer, then double click on Dial-up Networking.  Make sure your connection name appears in the Phonebook entry to dial box and press the Dial button.
