One of the most useful network resources you have at Fort Lewis College is called the M: Drive. Unfortunately this is also the least understood resource as well. You can think of your M: Drive as you would any other drive on your computer (A: , C: , etc...), only your M: Drive is on a network server and not physically attached to your PC.
Security
Only you have access to your M: Drive.
Safety
Have you ever had your hard drive crash and lost some important files? Ever lost or damaged that floppy disk (which just happened to contain your entire project)? By storing files on your M: Drive you can avoid such disasters. Your files are stored on a secure server which is backed up on a regular basis. Even if the server were to crash, your files would be safe.
Accessibility
Your M: Drive is available to you from any computer lab on campus, from your dorm room, and even from off campus.
Note: To connect to your M: Drive via broadband (DSL, Cablemodem, etc...) you will need to download and install a VPN client then follow to instructions below for dialup. Click Here

How can I get to my M: Drive?
To get to your M: Drive from a lab computer on campus simply log in to a station. Your M: Drive is automatically mapped. Double click on My Computer and you will see a drive called "username" on 'Student'(M:). Accessing your M: Drive from your dorm computer will be much the same as in a lab (assuming your PC is set up properly on the network).
How do I use my M: Drive
By default your M: Drive will contain two folders. One folder is named after your user name and the other is called "www". You can treat the drive as you would any other drive. Feel free to create new folders, rename folders, etc. The "www" folder is reserved for hosting your own web site.
