Have you ever wanted to connect to your FLC shares from your dialup connection?
These could be your personal M: drive or your professor's share that he uses to exchange information about your classes. Here are the step-by-steps for Windows 95 and 98.
- This first step is important. Your computer must have a name unique on the FLC network. Open the Network Control Panel (Start | Settings | Control Panel | Network)
Highlight the Identification Tab. · Set the Computer Name to your FLC Username. · Set the WorkGroup to FORTLEWIS.
Highlight the Configuration Tab.
- Make sure that you have a client called "Client for Microsoft Networks". If not, add it by:
- clicking Add
- highlight Client
- click add again
- choose the manufacturer Microsoft
- choose "Client for Microsoft Networks" from the list.
- click "OK"
- (If the Microsoft Family Logon client is present, remove it by highlighting it a clicking on the remove button.)
- Highlight "Client for Microsoft Networks"
- Click on Properties
- Go to the General Tab Check the box to "Log on to Windows NT Domain" Type FORTLEWIS in the Domain box. Click "OK"
- Click "OK" to close the Network Control Panel · Click "No" to the Restart Computer message.
- Double click on My Computer
Double click on Dial-Up Networking Right click on the icon you have set up for your FLC connection Go to Properties Go to Server Types Put a check in the "Log on to network" box.
- Reboot your computer and connect to the FLC modem pool as usual. You might see a new window open and close quickly as the logon progresses. After the logon is complete, right click on My Computer and proceed to the choice for "Map Network Drive". Choose M: for your network drive and type \\student\username for the path (If you are a faculty member, substitute the word faculty for student). For example:
\\student\jmdoe or \\faculty\hmsmith
- Check the "Reconnect at Logon" box if you want to connect to your M: drive every time you dial in.
- Click OK and your Personal Share should appear in Windows Explorer.
- Use the same method to connect to the share that faculty use to exchange information with their classes. Choose drive O: and connect it to \\faculty\acadcommon
