Fort Lewis College Host Family Program

--The student’s connection between Fort Lewis College and the off-campus community.

We invite you to partner with a Host Family at Fort Lewis College.  The Host Family Program at Fort Lewis College, new for the Fall of 2008, is intended to help ease the transition for new students to college life by:

• providing support and friendship to students away from home;
• introducing new students to Durango and Southwest Colorado; and
• providing a real-life experience for students apart from the everyday college perspective.

This year, we offer the opportunity for new students to be paired with host families in the Durango area.  Students do not live with host families, but may visit host family homes.  In addition to outings, meals, phone calls and companionship with the host family, there will be several Host Family Program social events during the year.

We anticipate that many students and their host families will become life-long friends.  Although new students have priority, there may be opportunities for continuing students to be paired with host families, if they are available.

The Steering Committee consists of several participating host family members and is organized by the Professional Associates of Fort Lewis College, a group of volunteers with substantial professional, business or academic experiences and skills, who support Fort Lewis College’s role as a multifaceted learning resource for its students and for the people of the Four Corners region.  The committee plans and participates in the events mentioned above and arranges the matches between families and students based on their applications.

Students are encouraged to submit applications early in the summer, so that they can be matched with their families with ample time to correspond with them before they arrive at Fort Lewis.  If you would like to participate in the Host Family Program, please click on the Student Application, complete the application, and click "Submit."
