Office of Alumni Relations

Message from the Director of Alumni Relations, Dave Kerns

What an honor it is to be back at Fort Lewis College!  I feel very lucky to be on campus as the Director of Alumni Relations with the responsibility of promoting the mission to keep our graduating students involved with FLC and to drive our alumni to reconnect with the place they used to call home.

I am coming back to Fort Lewis College as a graduate from the class of 2003.  Following commencement I worked on campus for three years performing human resource work and basic accounting for the Campus Dining Services.  I was eventually promoted and transferred out if Durango, which is when I realized where my home truly was (Durango).  Almost a year after my transfer I was offered a position back in Durango with the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.  I spent almost seven years at the Chocolate Factory as a Field Consultant.  My job at the Chocolate Factory had a wide range of responsibilities: from reviewing profit and loss statements and marketing plans to teaching franchisees how to make a 44 pound batch of fudge or peanut brittle.  One great aspect of my job was having a role in new product development where we worked on innovative types of candy.

When the position for the Director of Alumni Relations was brought to my attention, I leapt at the opportunity to work at Fort Lewis College.  What an amazing opportunity to give back to the college that has shaped my life in such a profound way.  After my first week on the job I can tell you that we have a number of exciting events hosted by the Fort Lewis College Alumni Association coming up this spring.   Keeping you connected with Fort Lewis College is my goal.  Staying connected can be as simple as perusing this monthly electronic newsletter or participating in our various online communities. I enjoyed meeting a number of you at the Denver Blake St. Tavern event in January, and I urge you to get involved with your Alumni Association by attending an alumni event, or returning for the alumni homecoming festivities.

Please check out the alumni site, and contact me with any ideas you may have for events that interest you. I'd love to hear what you are up to these days!
