Fort Lewis College will host its annual soccer and volleyball alumni matches on Saturday, Aug. 18.
To get a sneak peak at the 2007 volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer teams and to take another glance at some of FLC’s finest alumni, fans can come to the Fort Lewis College campus for a day of excitement. The women’s soccer alumni game will kick off the festivities at 1 p.m. at Dirks Field, with the men’s soccer alumni game to follow at 3 p.m. The volleyball alumni match concludes the day at 5 p.m. in Whalen Gymnasium.
“The soccer and volleyball alumni matches are always special at Fort Lewis because so many former student-athletes return to campus to relive past glories, tell stories about their families and careers, and engage in friendly competition against top NCAA Division II athletes,” said Director of Alumni Relations Chris Aaland. “It also signals the arrival of the fall sports season and the excitement that will grip the campus and town for the next several months.”
More than 150 alumni returned to campus last August to participate in or watch the alumni matches.
All alumni will be required to provide proof of medical insurance (medical insurance card) to be able to participate. The Skyhawk Athletic Department will provide secondary medical insurance coverage. In order to participate, alumni must check in and show proof of insurance between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the football press box on Saturday, Aug. 18.
One week later, the Skyhawks will officially kick off their 2007 fall sports season. Women’s soccer opens their season at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 at Dirks Field when they host Eastern New Mexico, while volleyball and men’s soccer open their seasons with trips to California and Denver, respectively.
