Fort Lewis College alumni elected four people to fill four-year seats on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, while another two vacancies were filled by appointment at the board’s annual meeting in the President’s Conference Room of Berndt Hall on Oct. 21.

Directors who were elected by popular vote included Tim Bell (class of 1996), Andy Chase (1991), Abby Driscoll (2000), and Jeff Lipschultz (1991). These four directors immediately began serving their terms at the Oct. 21 meeting.

Seventy-one alumni voted in the election, which was held from Aug. 21 through Oct. 21.

Two additional seats that were vacated mid-term were appointed by the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors per the association’s bylaws. These seats were vacated by former board members Julie Levy (2005) and Sherri (Shepherd) Phippen (1980), each of whom had resigned during the past few months due to other commitments.

Phippen’s term has three years remaining, and will be filled by Dave Bliesmer (1999). Levy’s term has one year remaining, and will be filled by Ryan Maycock (1998). Bliesmer and Maycock will begin serving their terms on Nov. 1.

The mission of the Alumni Association is to strengthen the bond between Fort Lewis College and its alumni and friends. The Alumni Association does so by serving as a public relations arm for the college; offering social, service, and education programs for alumni; offering a bi-directional communications channel between alumni and the college; supporting Fort Lewis College’s advancement efforts through alumni donations; advocating for Fort Lewis College in the recruitment of students; advocating for Fort Lewis College with members of the Colorado legislature; creating opportunities for alumni to give back to the college and their communities through community service projects; serving the Fort Lewis College president, vice presidents, deans, and other officers by serving on college committees, task forces, and other bodies; and offering career-oriented counsel and networking opportunities for alumni and students.

Fort Lewis College supports its Alumni Association by maintaining an Office of Alumni Relations to plan and facilitate the activities of the Alumni Association. This office is headed by a director of alumni relations and annual fund and staffed accordingly. The Office of Alumni Relations maintains a Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, which acts as an advisory board on all matters pertaining to the engagement of alumni in the life of the college.
