Fort Lewis College will host the 2006 Denver Nuggets preseason training camp from Oct. 3-7, culminating with an intersquad scrimmage on the final evening.
The Denver Nuggets players and ownership found Durango to be a perfect fit for their training camp because of its secluded location. The ownership hopes to build team chemistry and escape the high profile of a large city like Denver. For that reason, all practices and training sessions during the week will be closed to the public. The one opportunity for the community to see these all-star athletes will be on the evening of Oct. 7.
As a thank you to the Fort Lewis and Durango communities, the Nuggets will open the doors for the “Blue and Gold Benefit Scrimmage,” an intersquad scrimmage pitting teammate against teammate. The scrimmage will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7 in Whalen Gymnasium, with all proceeds benefitting the Skyhawk men’s and women’s basketball programs.
“It’s a great opportunity for the college and community to see some of the best the NBA has to offer,” said Fort Lewis College head men’s basketball coach Bob Hofman. “We really look forward to hosting the team here and making them feel at home.”
Skyhawk head women’s basketball coach Mark Kellogg stated, “It’s a great opportunity for the programs here to get exposure and will only have a positive impact on the community, college, and program.”
General admission tickets for the Blue and Gold Benefit Scrimmage cost $11 each with a maximum of 4 per person, and can be purchased via the following methods:
Online at www.durangoconcerts.com — 24 hours a day ($2.50/ticket convenience fee applied to online purchases)
Over the telephone — (970) 247-7657 — 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday ($1.50/ticket convenience fee to telephone purchases)
In person at the Community Concert Hall’s downtown ticket office, located at the corner of 7th St. and Main Ave. in Durango (no service charge will be applied to ticket office purchases).
Will-call tickets for this game will be available outside the Whalen Gymnasium main entrance starting at 5 p.m. on Oct. 7. The doors to the gym will open at 6 p.m. for ticket holders to enter and choose their seats. The game begins at 7 p.m.
Prior to game day, all tickets will be held at the Community Concert Hall’s downtown ticket office. Patrons may pick up their tickets prior to game day at this location — 707 ½ Main Avenue. Due to the volume of sales, the Concert Hall asks that patrons give the Ticket Office two days from their purchase date to process the ticket order.
