More than 50 people attended the Alumni Awards Banquet in the newly-renovated Student Union Ballroom on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 during Homecoming weekend. Among the attendees were numerous student leaders from a variety of clubs and organizations, including ASFLC, Wanbli Ota, Student Programming Council and Alumni Scholarship recipients — thanks to an anonymous donation of $500 from a Fort Lewis College alumna.
Seven awards were presented: Dusty Saunders (1950 alumnus, Alumni Achievement Award), Jesse Lopez (1986, Distinguished Alumni Award for the School of Natural & Behavioral Sciences), Richard Mike (1964, Distinguished Alumni Award for the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences), Jim Morehart (1971, Distinguished Alumni Award for the School of Business Administration), Terry Hutchison (1971, Community Leadership Award), Steve Roderick (provost and vice president for academic affairs, Bob Lundquist Award for Faculty/Staff Service to FLC Alumni) and Peggy Sharp (executive assistant to the president, Bob Lundquist Award for Faculty/Staff Service to FLC Alumni). Unfortunately, family and business commitments prevented Dusty and Jesse from joining us. The Alumni Association will present each with his award at a later date.
Guest speakers included FLC President Brad Bartel, Alumni Association President Andy Chase (1992), FLC Foundation and Office of Development Executive Director Margie Deane Gray, and the night's emcee, Director of Alumni Relations Chris Aaland (1991). Seratha Largie, who will serve as Miss Hozhoni during the 2009-2010 school year, and her friend, Seratha Largie, gave blessings in their native languages. |
