The Fort Lewis College Alumni Association held it's third annual Colorado Springs Sky Sox gathering on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Nearly 30 alumni and friends gathered to enjoy baseball, barbecue and a performance by the Zooperstars. Three members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors (President Russ Elliott, Vice President Andy Chase and board member David Bliesmer) drove from Durango and Denver to meet alumni. Additionally, three FLC employees — Director of Athletics Kelly Higgins, Head Volleyball Coach Shelly Aaland and Director of Alumni Relations Chris Aaland — made the trek from Durango to the Pikes Peak Region to watch the game. Special thanks to Brien Smith (1992), who works for the Sky Sox and has helped the Alumni Association host this gathering the past three years. Brien, who has worked for the Sky Sox for 17 seasons, is excited that his team is 3-0 when FLC hosts an alumni event in Security Service Field! After three years in a row of chilly, mid-May events, the Alumni Association will probably choose a mid-summer date for our Colorado Springs baseball, barbecue and alumni gathering in 2010!
