The Fort Lewis College cheer squad led Old Fort alumni through cheers prior to the football game against Mesa St.

Nearly 30 alumni, students and FLC staffers attended the Old Fort brunch on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 in Skyhawk Hall. In addition to dining on eggs, potatoes, French toast, bacon and fruit, the Old Fort alumni were told about this year's Old Fort scholarship recipients, introduced to the Skyhawk cheer squad and their coach, Suzanne (Dernoga) Garcia (2003), and presented with green and gold Old Fort beads and reusable FLC Alumni Association grocery bags.

Many of the Old Fort alumni joined Dr. Brad Bartel and his wife, Laura, in the President's Sky Box to watch the FLC vs. Mesa St. football game. Others ate Serious Texas BBQ in the Booster/Alumni hospitality tent.

Attendees from the classes of 1937, '38, '40, '42, '47, '50, '52 and '53 were in attendance, in addition to more recent graduates Chris Aaland (1991) and Suzanne Garcia (2003). Edgar Little (1953) gets the award for traveling furthest: He drove from the San Diego area for the reunion!

Special thanks to Director of Gift Planning Jeff Jantz and Scholarship Coordinator Sandy Jameson, both of the FLC Foundation and Office of Development, for helping with the event. A very special thank-you to Suzanne and her Skyhawk cheer squad for joining us!

Plans are already being made for next year's Old Fort brunch, tentatively to take place on Saturday, August 7, 2010. The Old Fort alumni traditionally held a reunion on campus during the first Saturday in August, close to Colorado Day (Aug. 1).
