Personal:
Jim and Nancy have four children and ten grandchildren - summer camp for the grand kids and holiday visits with the families are highpoints of the year. They enjoy all of the outdoor mountain activities and biking (Jim) and running (Nancy - Durango marathon 2004!) have become passions since moving to Durango.

Ross Park
Professional Title: Information Technology Executive

Education: Graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, and a Masters Degree in Computer Sciences.

Career Profile: Ross spent 4 years with the US Air Force stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. During that time, he also taught Computer Sciences courses at American University. His subsequent career in the information technology industry started as a software analyst with General Electric in Phoenix and Boston where he was assigned to projects which required him to spend extensive periods of time in France during the 1970s. This exposure to living and working in Europe triggered a life-long interest in foreign affairs.

With the purchase of GE Info Systems by Honeywell, Ross returned to Phoenix and managed a software organization of 300 programmers. With the purchase in 1988 of Honeywell Info Systems by Groupe Bull, a French government-owned computer company, Ross again had the opportunity to work closely with European technicians and management. Ross moved to Paris in 1994 to manage an international marketing team responsible for the introduction and support of Groupe Bull’s major product line. Ross returned to Phoenix as the General Manager of the Bull-Phoenix plant involving management of 2000 employees. He retired in 2001 after 37 years in the computer industry. His various positions in the computer industry involved considerable travel and living experience in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia.

Current interests: Ross currently resides full time in Durango Colorado with his wife Ellen and 3 cats. He enjoys, skiing, baking, opera, classical music, reading and, of course, involvement in international politics.

Susan L. Koonce
Professional Title: Educator

Education: University of Colorado, BS Home Economics/Psychology, 1964; West Virginia University, MS Child Development, 1971; University of Maryland, College Park, Ph.D Human Development, 1984.

Professional Career: Parenting of three children took precedence until the late sixties when I started taking workshops and classes. At West Virginia University, I was fortunate to be able to study and work with Frank Hooper – a prominent Piagetian scholar at the time. My Master’s degree in Child Development was a direct outcome of this experience. Piaget and teaching- both at pre-school(research) and college level – led me to courses at the University of Maryland and a Ph.D in Human Development. During the years of my studies at U of MD, I was involved in research and taught a variety of classes – both on and off campus, and began working for the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Upon graduation, I spent some time working as a family counselor, but continued teaching on campus and began working in the Office for Undergraduate Studies. As Assistant Dean, I had the opportunity to initiate, manage, and staff many programs and projects across many disciplines and programs and offices.

Since moving to Durango, I have taken on the management of the properties owned by my family’s company in central Colorado.

Robert W. Blair, Jr

Career Profile:
Rob taught geology at Fort Lewis College from 1973 to 2001 and served as Chairman for eight years. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2001. Specialty: geomorphology. Taught geomorphology, engineering geology, field camp, field methods, natural regions of North America, technical writing in geosciences, geochemistry, remote sensing, introduction to GIS, aerial photo interpretation, physical geology, and earth science. In addition he has organized and taught numerous "Innovative Month Programs" in New Zealand, Hawaii, Mexico, China, and Nepal.

He is an active member of the Association of Independent Professional Geologists (AIPG # 10779) and has been consulting since 1973. Projects include: groundwater contamination, landfill selection, uranium tailing disposal sites, acid-rock drainage, geologic hazard mapping, landscape classification maps, mapping surficial deposits, landslide stability analysis. Contract employers include the US Geological Survey, Four Corners Environmental Institute, US Forest Service, homeowner associations, and individuals.

Accomplishments and interests:
He has over 40 publications including several edited books and two CD’s. The most notable books are "Geomorphology from Space", a NASA publication (out of print and highly sought after) by Nickolas Short and Robert Blair; and "The Western San Juan Mountains: Their geology, ecology and human history", a guide to the local region. He was the 2000 Spring commencement speaker at Fort Lewis College. He initiated the formation of the Mountain Studies Institute and still serves on its Board of Directors. He is an active member of Geological Society of America, American Geophysical Union, Four Corners Geological Society, as well as the Professional Associates. Rob is an active mountaineer and skier.

Robert K. Yearout
Professional Title:
National Parks Program Manager

Career Profile: Bob was with the National Park Service for 34 years, primarily in the concessions management program. He was a unit manager with operational and planning responsibilities at Grand Canyon, and a concessions analyst and management assistant at Grand Teton National Park. For 14 years he managed the Service’s Concessions Planning and Analysis Division, located at the NPS Denver Service Center (planning, design, construction, professional services). The division provided parks and planning teams technical assistance in concessions related planning, economic feasibility studies, facility design review, concession operation analyses, and building replacement cost estimates. He also served on numerous NPS planning teams. From 1994 to his retirement in 1999, he was the Concessions Program Manager for the NPS. During this period, the NPS had over 600 concessioners in 130 parks, with annual sales exceeding $700 million. Since retirement he has provided consulting services in the area of national park concessions management, and is an instructor in the Service’s concessions management training program provided by Northern Arizona University.

Volunteer Service: Bob serves on the Southwest Colorado Advisory Council for the Volunteers of America.
