Students doing research with faculty. All faculty in the Biology Department conduct research in different subject areas including diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), field and plant ecology and entomology.

Below are some recent examples of our faculty research projects, publications and awards:

The Biology Department possess a Faculty Research Laboratory of approximately 5500 ft2. This laboratory includes cell culture facilities, DNA sequencing facilities, and over 2 million dollars of state-of-the-art equipment. The Faculty Research Laboratory is adjacent to the cell culture facility and where all major research equipment is housed including an Accuri flow cytometer and an ABI real-time PCR system.

The Biology Department also has a Biosafety Laboratory that is newly constructed as of January 2010. This laboratory is approved for working with Biosafety Level 2 pathogens, as well as limited work with Biosafety Level 3 pathogens. This laboratory space is approximately 300 ft2 and is equipped with a biosafety cabinet, centrifuge with a sealed rotor, water bath, incubator, sink, and eye wash station.
