The Biology Department houses an Undergraduate Independent Study Laboratory, which is approximately 1000 ft2, where students conduct independent research projects. This lab is fully outfitted with instrumentation necessary for cellular and molecular biology research such as a biological safety cabinet, a tissue culture hood and incubator, refrigerators and microfuges.

The Biology Department at Fort Lewis College provides students the opportunity to conduct research in the field and in the laboratory in order to promote independent learning, the acquisition of scientific knowledge and to provide the skills necessary to pursue professional positions in the biological sciences. Many of our current students and alumni have received national and regional awards. This past year many of our students attended the Tri-Beta National Honors Society Meeting and were recognized for their research projects. Moreover, the student from Fort Lewis College were recognized with an award for the Largest Student Contingent from the Region!
