Mrs. Linda Price Campbell, sponsor of MESA VERDE, LPD 19, was born and raised in Montrose, Colorado. She lived on the family’s 3,000-acre sheep and cattle ranch in Cimarron, Colorado in the summer and in Montrose, Colorado in the fall and winter. She earned a B.A. in secondary education with an art minor from Western State College in Gunnison, CO. She has over 23 years of teaching experience in Elementary, Junior High and High Schools in Montrose, Carmichael, and Ignacio, Colorado.
In 1966 she married Ben Nighthorse Campbell. During the years they have raised, bred, and shown champion American Quarter Horses; maintained a working 260-acre horse and cattle ranch; and operated a jewelry business, Nighthorse, Inc. As President of Nighthorse, Inc, Mrs. Campbell has represented the company at art shows; consignments to galleries nationwide; promotional activities on behalf of Native American and Western Art, and been directly involved within the community of both Native American artists and western art.
Starting in 1982, she supported her husband in nine political campaigns including four statewide campaigns for U.S. Senate. For many of these state legislative and Federal congressional campaigns she was Bookkeeper, chief correspondent and FEC report manager. During their past 18 years in Washington, Mrs. Campbell has met dozens of state and world leaders. Additionally, she was involved in the Senate Slickers project, which introduces Washington D.C. legislators to rural, ranch lifestyle and is aimed at preservation of small ranches. She also developed the Continental Divide Trail Senate Ride. After a lifetime of community involvement, including many years of local school board committee work and the founding of two 4-H Horse clubs, she is currently cochairman of the Nighthorse exhibit for the National Museum of the American Indian - Smithsonian, Co-Chairman for Signature Series for Mercy Hospital, and sits on the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, she is currently chairperson for the capital campaign for the Mercy Breast Care Center.
The Campbell's have two children: son Colin and daughter Shanan.
Campbell will serve on the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College through December 2009.
