Richard Ballantine
Board Of Trustees for Fort Lewis College

Richard Ballantine will serve as the secretary/treasurer of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College during the 2005-06 academic year.

Ballantine is the publisher of the Durango Herald and Cortez Journal newspapers. He also oversees the production of the Directory Plus phonebooks for Southwest Colorado and New Mexico. When he is not at the paper, he grows hay, oats and corn on his farm south of Durango.

He holds board memberships with the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center in Cortez, First National Bank of Durango, the Ballantine Family Fund and the Florida Canal Irrigation Company. He is also a member of the Colorado Forum in Denver and El Pomar Foundation Awards for Excellence Commission.

Ballantine is past president of the Colorado Press Association and the Fort Lewis College Foundation. He received the Fort Lewis College Distinguished Service Award in 1995.

He has also served on numerous state advisory groups, including the Colorado Education Goals Panel, Life and the Law, and Colorado Geography Education Fund. He was a Pulitzer Prize juror in 1998 and 1999.

Ballantine will serve on the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College through December 2011.
