Policy 5-7: Accessibility Procedures - Reed Library

I. PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide elevator access to John F. Reed Library.

II. GENERAL

A. Elevator Access

As students are identified by the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities as needing key access to the Library elevator, their names will be forwarded to the Library by the Office, and the students will be brought over for an orientation session conducted by Services for Students with Disabilities. The orientation will acquaint the student with the fact that the key is allowing access to secured area of the Library, and that all materials brought through the elevator must be checked out at the Circulation Counter; no one other than students identified by the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities are eligible to ride the elevator with the student signing out the key, nor is the key to be given to anyone else. The student will be responsible for any abuse of that privilege.

Following orientation, the student will be permitted to sign out the elevator key at the Library Circulation Desk upon presentation of their FLC student ID. The check-out will be updated upon return of the key.

Community users needing elevator access will be assisted by Library staff.

Note: Students needing the elevator between the basement and the main floor will need to ask the staff in the Periodicals Room to put them on the elevator or exit the building and re-enter on the main level.

B. Students with Mobility or Visual Disabilities

Library staff are available to assist students with mobility or visually disabilities in retrieving library materials. Students needing assistance should make their request at either the Library Circulation Desk or the Library Reference Desk.
