Physical education at the Fort
Thursday, April 18, 2013
Because Fort Lewis College is a liberal arts school, all students are required to take a variety of classes in almost every subject. One of the classes needed in order to graduate is physical education. Each student needs one credit of PE, which means that you need to take at least one PE class while attending Fort Lewis. My schedule this semester was busy and I couldn’t seem to find much time between working and classes to add a PE class. I knew that I had to get it done in order for me to graduate next year so I sat down with my advisor and read through all of the PE classes available this semester. One really stood out to me: Camping and Backpacking.

Cabin fever?

When you ask most people what they think of when referring to winters in Durango, probably 80% of the answers you get are skiing and snowboarding related. Engine Creek Ride!
Yes, it is true—most bikes in Durango are worth more than a person’s car. I, myself, am almost guilty of that logic. I have done a good number of those “in town” rides, but the most epic ride that I have been on so far was a bit north of town. The name of the trail is Engine Creek Trail; a steep climb up Engineer Mountain followed by a techy downhill descent all around the circumference of Engineer Mountain is what makes this trail my favorite trail by far.

Climbing? Climbing!!

I looked out of my dorm window at the snow-covered ground, blue bird sky and frosty trees. The sun was shining, illuminating the snow with brilliant clarity as it sparkled in this early February morning. I smiled at how foreign yet beautiful this wintery landscape was. Gone were the sandy beaches, the 80 degree weather, the rustling palm trees and breaking waves that I had grown up with in Hawai’i. What would I do today?

An adventurous summer in Durango
Tuesday, February 19, 2013
During my Junior and Senior years of high school, as I started looking for colleges, I wanted to find a school where I would never be bored and could always find something exciting to do. Durango is probably the most exciting and challenging place to explore that I have come across. Year-round, there are all sorts of different adventures to embark on. I’ll try to explain at least some of what I have come to love doing in Durango.
