It’s not a lie: Snyder B was the place to be. All the residents were always there. Even people who were not residents in Snyder B were always there. We mobbed over to dinner all together, we went camping all together, and we went out on the weekends all together. We had heard legends of Snyder B residents from the past and yearned to be college legends as well.

“Sometimes you have to play with fire to find out how to not get burned.” This a quote I’ve come to find very realistic while in college. When you are away from old friends or family and on your own to make decisions, it can sometimes be hard to get things right on your first try. In the residence halls, you have to do your own laundry. I remember seeing lot of trial and error there: someone using dish soap in the washing machine, or someone thinking that turning it on made the machine release its own soap.

As much as all of you might not realize it, every student in this room has something in common. You are all here because you are thinking of your future and pursuing the path of college. I was in the same place as you, just four short years ago. I know the decision you are being faced with now. It is hard to decide where, why and what to go to college for. There are dorms to see, class sizes to consider, degree options to look at, costs of attendance, distance from home, food options, where you can go shopping, how much Call of Duty time you are going to have, and where the best long boarding hill is. Most importantly, where you will be happy, as well as successful? For me, Fort Lewis has it all.

To tell you the truth, I cannot remember a weekend in Durango that was not perfect; blue skies mixed with three-hundred days of sunshine makes Durango ‘paradise’ for outdoor enthusiasts. I have experienced my version of the perfect weekend several times.
My perfect weekend starts out by waking up on Saturday morning and sipping on a hot cup of coffee. During that time I am thinking about what I need to pack for the adventure I have planned during the week.
