Events Calendar

The Environmental Center’s Outreach and Education Team organizes public events and education programs for the Fort Lewis Campus and the larger community to inspire action.   Past programs include Earth Week during the last week in March and our World Awareness Lecture Series in the fall.  Past speakers hosted by the EC include: Vandana Shiva, David Orr, John Todd, and Derrick Jensen. If you have a relevant public event that you’d like us to list?  Email: ec_communications@fortlewis.edu

September 1st - First Day of School
It is time for school to start again!  The staff at the EC is starting work again and we are all excited for this new year.  We are looking for volunteers and work study employees for please drop by and give us your information and fill out an application.  We will have the events calender updated by the end of the week.

Saturday September 6th - Tour de Farms - Bicycle Ride
What:
Tour de Farms is a bicycle ride tour that highlights what is unique, healthy, and homegrown about our agricultural community.  Participants can chose between two rides, a 5 mile family friendly route through town, or,  a 35 mile ride up Hesperus Hill to La Plate County Farms.  The Tour de Farm also features talks from growers on community gardens, ranches, and local farms.   There will be live music, local foods and t-shirts for all participants.  Space is limited and advance registration is required to participate.  Sign up today!  Registration forms can be picked up at the Fairgrounds Extension Office, the CSU Booth at the Durango Farmers' Market, or by emailing: juliehudak@gmail.com.
Cost: $20 per person which includes a lunch and a t-shirt.

When: 5 mile ride meets at 9 am and the 35 mile ride meets at 8 am.

Monday, September 8th - County Commissioners Canidate Forum
What:
Decide who you will be voting for at this canidate forum.  Ask questions and get answers from Kellie Hotter (district 2), Wally White (District 3), Peter Tregillus (District 2), and Harry Baxstrom (District 3).  It is almost time for election make sure you know the canidates and the issues.

Drive Smarter Challenge
What: 
The Drive Smarter Challenge is a fuel-efficiency campaign launced by the Wal-Mart Foundation, National Association of Counties and 16 additional public and private-sector partners to help U.S. consumers lower their gas costs by using less.  The campaign offers effective money and gas saving tips all aimed at keeping more money in drivers' pockets and reducing the number of costly trips to the pump.  By entering your specific vehicle data, you can find exactly how much you can save by using six easy driving and maintenace actions.  Saving will be calculated in dollars, gallons and CO2 emmissions.  Your enthusiastic participation and pledges made will lead to reducing your gasoline consumption and national recognition oppurtunities for our county when we win the challege competion.
