The Environmental Center organizes public events and education programs for the Fort Lewis campus and the larger community to inspire action.   Past speakers hosted by the EC include: Vandana Shiva, David Orr, John Todd, and Derrick Jensen. We also host fundraisers during the fall and spring semester to support students working at the EC. Wednesday, November 11th – Leveraging the Unique Power of Local Living Economies
What: Michelle Long, Executive Director of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) comes to Durango with a presentation on how communities can restructure their economies to become more sustainable and self-reliant. She will draw upon her experience as co-founder of Sustainable Connections, one of the leading locally-owned, business alliances in the country and a leader in sustainable local economic development in and around Bellingham, Washington. Sponsored by Local First, the Environmental Center, and the Fort Lewis College Environmental Studies Program.

Thursday, November 12th – EC Workshop Series: Grantwriting
What:
Learn about the ins and outs and ups and downs of grantwriting for a small non-profit organization. We will look at examples of different grants, talk about the process of building relationships with potential funders, and the basic outline for a grant proposal. Participants are encouraged to bring specific projects that they want to find funding for.
When: 7:15 PM to 8:45 PM
