Visit the Environmental Center
The Environmental Center is located in Trailer #4 on the Fort Lewis College campus north of the Mears Apartment buildings and across 8th Avenue from the Community Concert Hall. We will be located in Trailer Town complex until Fall of 2011 when we will move back into a new office in the Student Union. Look at a campus map.
By Foot
The best and most scenic way to get to the EC is on foot. A trail leaves from behind the bike racks at the intersection of East 8th Avenue and East 8th Street that will bring you to campus and 8th Avenue. You can follow 8th Avenue past the main campus parking lots to Trailer Town north of the Mears Apartments. Alternatively you can climb Chapman Hill and bear left at the top of the hill. Walk past the Community Concert Hall and out across 8th Avenue. Look for our banner attached to the deck. Walking time from the bottom of the hill is 20 minutes.
By Bike
All the routes into are accessible by bicycle. The easiest is up Goeglein Gulch Road which climbs from the intersection of College Drive and 8th Avenue. Take a left at the roundabout at the top of the hill and then take first left onto 8th Avenue. Bike toward campus and you'll see our banner and trailer on your left. Biking up North College Drive brings you to the same roundabout at which you take a right and then the first left onto 8th Avenue.
By Bus
Durango Transit has two routes that will take you to campus. Once you get off the bus the Center will be behind you to your right. You will have to cross walk across the main campus parking lot to the right of the bus stop. Head for the trailers across 8th Avenue and north of the Mears Apartments and look for our banner.
By Car
From the east and south
From Highway 160/550, take a right on Santa Rita Drive to 8th Avenue. Take a left on 8th and go straight through the intersection at College Drive and up the winding hill to the Fort Lewis campus. Continue through the light at the top of the hill. During the school year, parking is available in the metered lot on the left just after this light. Alternatively, the next lot down has a little yellow box on the sidewalk that sells parking passes that will allow you to park in any lot on campus. The second parking lot on your right after the light is the closest main lot to our office.
If you come from Geogline Gulch Road you will take a left at the roundabout and then the first left. You will quickly pass our trailer office on your left. If you come up North College Drive you come to the same roundabout at which you take a right and then the first left onto 8th Avenue.
From the west
Take 160 East into town. Take a right at the intersection with Highway 550. Take a left at the first light. This is Santa Rita Drive. From this point, follow the directions given above.
From the north
From Main Street or Camino del Rio, take a left on College Drive. Go straight to East 8th Avenue and take a left. From this point, follow the directions given above.
