Thursday, March 26 – Students Seize the Future
What: Presentation by students who attended the recent Rocky Mountain Sustainability Summit in Boulder, Colorado and the Powershift Conference in Washington D.C.   Students will discuss their experience, new directions for student activism, and their work on the College’s Sustainability Action Plan.
When: 6:30 p.m.

Friday, March 27 – EC/KDUR So Long C.U.B. Party – The Movement of the Movement
What: It’s out of the closet and into the trailer park for the Environmental Center and KDUR during the College Union renovation.  Share your memories of good times in small spaces and help us say good-bye to our home on the top floor of the C.U.B.  It’s the movement of the movement.  Come dressed as your favorite revolutionary and dance, dance, dance.  Co-sponsored by KDUR.

Saturday, March 28 – La Plata County Greenhouse Tour

What: Learn about the potential of greenhouses to extend the season by visiting three local growing spaces: Regeneration Earth, Turtle Lake Refuge, and Community Connections’ Holly House Site.  At each stop you’ll be able to get your hands dirty and help our county start growing food for 2009.  This tour is brought to you by the Garden Collaborative, a joint project of the Environmental Center, The Garden Project of SW Colorado, and Community Connections, Inc.

Monday, March 30 – FLC Free Store Demo – Be Free!
What: The EC’s Zero-Waste Team demonstrate how a campus “free store” can reduce waste.  Look for the costumed bicyclists representing freedom or drop off items you no longer want or need in front of Reed Library.  Then take something from the pile.   Be Free!
When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday, March 30 to Friday, April 3 – Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) Sessions
What: Find out about the proposed Sustainability Action Plan for Fort Lewis College and provide feedback on sustainability priorities for FLC.  Each day is a different topic:
• Monday: Consumption (waste, recycling, purchasing, campus dining) – CUB 105, 12 – 1:00 p.m.
• Tuesday: Climate – Part 1 (energy & buildings) – CUB 104, 12 – 1:00 p.m.
• Wednesday: Climate – Part 2 (transportation) - CUB 104, 1 – 2:00 p.m.
• Thursday: Stewardship (water, land-use, environmental health) – CUB 104, 1 – 2:00 p.m.
• Friday: Education & Engagement and Service to Region – Noble 125, 12 – 1:00 p.m.
The action plan will set targets for Fort Lewis College to achieve over the next five years and will chart a course toward creating a climate neutral campus. 

Tuesday, March 31st – Discussion: Future of Independent Media with Sarah Ruth van Gelder
What: A discussion with Sarah Ruth van Gelder, executive editor of YES! Magazine, about the future of independent media in an era of online information and global consolidation. What do students need to know to work in independent media?  How has YES! Magazine established itself as a leading source for progressive news and information?  What does the future hold for independent media?  Discuss these questions with a leading journalist working to identify and report positive and hopeful stories about our world.
When: 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Jones Hall Room 140, Fort Lewis College campus

Tuesday, March 31st – Keynote Address: “Reasons to Believe: Top Innovations for Sustainability” Sarah Ruth van Gelder
What: Since the launch of YES! Magazine in 1996, Sarah has directed the editorial content of the magazine, and written and spoken on climate change, the local economy movement, nonviolence and active peacemaking, food, water, universal health care, corporate power, happiness, nuclear disarmament, and much more.  In each case, she frames issues around potential solutions to our deepest problems and their connection to leadership that exists within diverse communities around the world.  Her talk, entitled “Reasons to Believe” will highlight positive trends that exist in the midst of current economic crisis and global instability and show that a more just and sustainable world is not only possible, it is already taking shape.
When: 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, April 1st – Tour de Fort Bike Rally and Parade
What:
Show your support for getting more people on bicycles at Fort Lewis College. Come to FLC’s first-ever bike rally and parade with music, snacks, speakers, possibly tune-ups, and pedal-powered parade through campus.  Wear costumes, ring bells, cheer loudly, and provide feedback on potential FLC bike programs.  For every bike that participates in the parade, the Environmental Center will make a donation to the new summer youth bike program.  More details on the way….

Thursday, April 2nd – The Fantasy Food Connection
What: Are you tired of looking high and low for the vegetable of your dreams?   Something fresh and juicy to sink your teeth into?   Do you want company digging your hands into a garden paradise? No worries. The Fantasy Food Connection is here to help.   Join the fun as we discuss ways to match growers with one another, fertile spaces, and all the tools they need to have a lifelong relationship with their favorite fruits and vegetables.   Walk away with the start of your own herb garden and enjoy some local greens.
When: 12 – 1:00 p.m.

Friday, April 3rd – Seeding Solutions Sandbox Symposium
What:
Creative discussion how the community can embrace innovation and support entrepreneurs and risk-takers seeking to improve the quality of life in La Plata County.   Students will summarize the themes of the week and push our discussion of how to “seed solutions” in our community to new heights.  The venue will encourage participants to be artistic, to play with ideas, and become innovators themselves for the benefit of all. 
When: 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, April 5th – Southwest Colorado Community Garden Training
What: Training for community members interested in starting or helping with community or school gardens in Southwest Colorado.  Learn growing basics for our region, season extension techniques, how to lead a garden work day, and get the big picture on community gardens as part of our local food system.  Swap seeds with fellow gardeners. Participants will receive a copy of the EC’s Eco-Garden Guidebook and a light snack.  Download a registration form  Deadline to register is Friday, March 27th.  Co-sponsored by: Healthy Lifestyle La Plata, The Garden Project of Southwest Colorado, Backyard Harvests.
