President's Advisory Council on Environmental Affairs (PACEA)
The role of PACEA is to advise the President on ways to integrate sustainable practices into the everyday life of the college and consistently improve Fort Lewis’ environmental performance. The President’s Advisory Council for Environmental Affairs (PACEA) began during the fall semester of 1999 after a meeting between the EC Coordinator, Campus Ecology Coordinator, and former President Kendall Blanchard. In 2004, PACEA completed work the Fort Lewis College Environmental Policy, establishing guiding principles for campus operations and management. The following year, the council incorporated green recommendations into the College’s Facilities Master Plan.
The council is currently in the early stages of putting together a Sustainability Action Plan for the college. The plan will set measurable goals for the campus to integrate sustainability into all aspects of campus life, including campus operations, financial decisions, and academic programs and will include a timeline for the College to achieve climate neutrality.
The final plan will make Fort Lewis College a leader among institutions of higher education on issues of sustainability and environmental stewardship. We anticipate the plan will also save Fort Lewis money and resources that can be re-invested to accomplish other goals set forward by the college.
If you would like to participate in the creating Fort Lewis' Sustainability Action Plan or would like more information about PACEA contact EC Coordinator Marcus Renner.
