Step 4: Drafting a Plan
During the summer of 2008, the Environmental Center researched several of the ideas that emerged from the 3-2-1 study circles. Once school started, students began calling other colleges and universities with specific questions about landcaping, pesticides, recycling, and other topics.

Students compiled this information and met at least once a week to decide on parts of the plan and prioritize action steps. Each month students completed a section of the plan, which went to a Coordinating Committee of key staff members, including the College's Budget Director, the Director of Physical Plant Services, and the head of facilities for Student Housing. After revising the section based on their feedback, the section of the plan went to the President’s Council on Environmental Affairs (PACEA).
|
PACEA suggested additional revisions and areas requiring more research. Students continued to close these research gaps and finished the current version of the Sustainability Action Plan over the summer. The Environmental Center also hosted open meetings for the campus and community during their 2009 Earth Week Celebration to get additional feedback.

The Climate portion of the plan also included an intensive three-month study of energy and transportation options for the College to achieve carbon neutrality. This 50-year plan has recommended strategies for the College to pursue in both the short- and long-term.
