Colorado Trail Foundation - The Colorado Trail is maintained by the non-profit Colorado Trail Foundation (CTF) in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. The CTF recruits and trains volunteers for trail construction, coordinates the Adopt-A-Trail maintenance program, and distributes information on activities and publications.

Red Mountain Project - The goal of the Red Mountain Project is the acquisition and return to public ownership of approximately 10,500 acres of private mining claims situated in three of the most scenic valleys in Colorado's San Juan Mountains. Once seriously considered for elevation to National Park status in recognition of unquestioned natural beauty, the area was ultimately rejected in light of extensive mineralization and mining potential. This web site lists successes of the project as well as historical information about the Red Mountain region.

Red Rock Forest- non-profit organization that uses education, public policy, the law, citizen action, and collaboration with other organizations and agencies to protect high desert oases.

San Juan Citizens Alliance- “Organizers for the land and people of the San Juan Basin

Sierra Club - Rocky Mountain Chapter - The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club. Inspired by nature, the Sierra Club works together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. 

Southwest Colorado Fire Information Clearinghouse - The SW Colorado Fires Website is now available for accessing information about long-term recovery efforts in the aftermath of the Missionary Ridge Fire.

Southwest Forest Alliance - coalition of 50 environmental groups in Arizona and New Mexico working to save the 11 national forests in the southwest 

Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project - The Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project (SREP) seeks to identify, protect and restore areas critical to the maintenance of biological diversity and ecological richness in the Southern Rockies bioregion. SREP is a non-profit, grassroots organization established in 1992 to join the science of conservation biology with citizen activism to develop ecosystem protection plans in the Southern Rockies. SREP's regional affiliates span from Southern Wyoming to Northern New Mexico.

 

Southern Rockies Forest Network - The Southern Rockies Forest Network's mission is to save the last unprotected wildlands in the Southern Rockies, and to preserve and restore native biodiversity through advocacy, education, and legal action.

 

Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance - a very large group working to protect the unspoiled landscape of the Colorado Plateau 

 

The Nature Conservancy The South Fork Preserve on the San Miguel River - Perhaps the most striking of the three Conservancy-protected preserves along the San Miguel, the South Fork Preserve lies below the towering 14,000-foot Wilson Peak of the western San Juan Mountains.

 

The Nature Conservancy - San Miguel Canyon - The San Miguel, one of the few remaining naturally functioning rivers of the West, supports some of the best riparian (streamside) habitat in the Upper Colorado Basin.

 

The Nature Conservancy - Tabeguache Preserve - A 7-mile stretch of the San Miguel meanders through the preserve, occupying a broad floodplain. Unlike areas upstream, the waters flowing through this site are tame and peaceful.

World Wildlife Fund - The largest multinational conservation organization in the world, WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally.  WWF's mission is the conservation of nature. Using the best available scientific knowledge and advancing that knowledge where we can, we work to preserve the diversity and abundance of life on Earth and the health of ecological systems.
