There are many things we can do to make sure our Being is well – and we have some wonderful new opportunities for you to explore. Take our Tai Chi Gung class, or learn Kettlebells from one of our very own Fort Lewis College students. Nutrition is a factor for energy and health, and Turn the Clock back on Aging will give you practical advice from someone who knows!

ADD/ADHD - Healing the Natural Way

Sherri Wormser, PT, Certified Natural Chef

Fee: $69 (includes $20 for the cooking workshop), 1 class

Learn the basics of ADHD, myths, medications, and food/environmental triggers in this evening class covering the importance of food in managing symptoms, improvement of attention, grades, and even social skills (including aggression). Food pairing and appropriate
times to prepare and eat certain meals, such as times of stress or upcoming events, will be discussed. The first two hours will be lecture style, and the last two hours will be a hands-on preparation of meals, both vegetarian and non vegetarian, while we discuss the subject. Sherri Wormser is a physical therapist with over 8 years experience working in pediatrics, and a Certified Natural Chef with over 750 hours in holistic, alternative nutrition, and holds a BS from New York University. She is the owner of Healthy Fusion.

Introduction to Kettlebells: The Martial Art of Fitness

Kettlebells look like cannon balls with handles and provide a full body workout of weight resistance fitness which incorporates yoga poses, breathing techniques, strength and ultimate core strength. It is considered the martial art of fitness because the techniques build on each other and require improved strength, focus and body mechanics as you go. In fact practitioners will reap the benefits of cardio training, strength training, and flexibility in a one hour class through the concepts, principles and unique exercises presented. A limited number of Kettlebells in different weights will be available in class, but if you’re interested in purchasing your own or learning more, please go to www.dragondoor.com. You may also find good deals on kettlebells on EBay. There are different brands of kettlebells and Sage recommends RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge). A  mat will be helpful, but not mandatory, for the class. Sage Petersen is a second-generation personal trainer who has been around personal training and other wellness practices such as the Martial Arts his whole life. He is certified in Kettlebells and has taught classes and clinics since 2005. He is a Fort Lewis College student seeking a degree in Ethno-health Perspectives, a student constructed major which incorporates the study of exercise science, nutrition, language and anthropology. Tai Chi Gung, Introduction

Dr. Edward K. Jackson, DOM

Fee: $149, 13 classes

MON, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

     February 4 – April 28

This class teaches basic aspects of Tai Chi exercise, including the science, principles, and fundamentals. We will conduct the exercises with proper body mechanics and according to safety standards. Benefits include: relief of stress, tension, improved balance, weight loss, revitalization and rejuvenation of the body and its systems. Edward K Jackson, DOM, is a neurological health practioner who has practiced and taught Tai Chi Gung for over 20 years. With a wealth of experience from his medical practice and personal application of Tai Chi in his own life, he has a passion for sharing the benefits with his students, patients, and our community.

Turn the Clock Back on Aging!

Susan White

Fee: $19, 1 class

WED, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Define age expectations! At 68, Susan White is an International Flight Attendant who was hired by Continental Airlines at age 53 after retiring from two careers. She has been studying nutrition for 35 years and is a testimony to Hippocrates’ statement, “You are what you eat.” Susan will focus on power foods that energize your body and slow down the aging process. She will include tips on avoiding jet lag and arriving at your destination feeling refreshed.
