How to take Continuing Education Courses
Just sign up! The registration process is simple.
Call our office today and register for one of our Fall non-credit "local" classes (usually held in a classroom on campus in the evening or on a Saturday) and/or on-line non-credit class (everything from Wine Appreciation to computer classes to certificate programs). We have a few college credit classes, and you can call for information (970) 247-7385.
Non-credit classes are open to everyone, except where a specific age group is indicated in the course description. Credit classes are generally open to adults 18 years of age or older.
Registration:
Registration is required prior to the first class session for any course. You may register through the Continuing Education Office directly by telephone, fax, mail, or from the "Registration Form" link on this webpage. Early registration is important to prevent your desired course from being canceled due to insufficient enrollment. If a course has space available, you may register up to the second class meeting. To enroll after that time requires the instructor’s permission.
Telephone Registration: If you have a VISA , Discover Card, or MasterCard, you may register by telephone. Call (970) 247-7385 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
In-Person Registration: You may come by the Continuing Education Office, 450 Berndt Hall on the Fort Lewis College campus between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. We love to meet our students in person!
Mail Registration: Please print off the Continuing Education Registration Form and mail to the address below. Please include payment by check or credit card and mail in the completed form. Printed schedules of our courses with a registration form can be found in many locations around Durango and outlying communities. The Community Recreation Center, Magpies, Nature's Oasis, Steaming Bean Coffee, Durango Music, Heads and Nails, North & South City Market, Coffee Joes, the Durango Public Library, Subway North, and many local coffee houses are supportive in displaying our schedules.

Withdrawal and Refund:
If you need to withdraw form a course, you must contact the Continuing Education office. Not attending class does not constitute withdrawal, and the course instructor cannot grant withdrawal or a refund. If you fail to withdraw, you will not receive any refund. If you fail to officially withdraw from a credit course, you will receive an administrative grade, which is unsatisfactory. Unless noted in the course description, refunds are granted as follows:
Courses extending beyond two weeks:
· 90% refund of tuition (not fees) if you withdraw prior to the second class session, however a minimum of $10 is retained.
· No refund after the second class session.
Courses of two weeks or less duration:
· 90% refund of tuition (not fees) if you withdraw two or more weekdays in advance, however a minimum of $10 is retained.
· 50% refund of tuition (not fees) if you drop the course during the two days prior to the first class session.
· No refund if you drop the course on or after the start date.
Class Cancellations:
Continuing Education is supported by tuition and fee income. In order for us to hold a course, we must meet a registration minimum. If you don’t want to see your course cancelled, don’t wait until the day of class to register. Guarantee yourself a space in the course of your choice by registering early. Some courses may have an earlier deadline. Please observe these. If your class is cancelled, your tuition and fees will be refunded as promptly as possible.
Grading:
Non-credit courses have no examinations and are not graded. In a credit course, you are graded on a Pass/Fail basis. You must fulfill all the requirements for the course, including tests and assignments. The grade recorded on your transcript will be a P or F. If you register for a course meeting college degree or specific program requirements, you should clear it with the appropriate administrator. If you wish to become a Fort Lewis College degree candidate, you must apply for admission (247-7184).
Using the Library:
Students enrolled in Continuing Education courses have the same library privileges as other students. Continuing Education students from out-of-state should present their copy of the course registration receipt to check out books.
New Courses:
We are always looking for new courses to offer. If you have any ideas please contact us. You can email us at continuinged@fortlewis.edu.
