Fort Lewis College has partnered with TravelCampus by Education Systems LLC to offer a Home Study program designed to allow you to learn about the travel and tourism industry in the convenience of your own home and on your own time schedule. It is also a good option for travel professionals wanting to expand their training. The textbooks serve as a wonderful on-the-job resource. We recommend all courses but a certificate of completion can be issued upon successful completion of each course.

 

The subject content is dictated by the industry. Each course is designed by experts to provide you the knowledge and/or skill necessary to succeed in the exciting world of travel.  The price includes textbooks, home study guides and computer software.

Destination Geography - Western Hemisphere

Day and Time: Must be completed within one year of start date.

Course Description: This course presents the travel and tourism destinations of the Western Hemisphere studied from a travel industry perspective. Maps are studied with an orientation to location of each country and its major city(s). The course treats physical, locational, and cultural geography as a travel sales product.

 

Destination Geography - Eastern Hemisphere 

Day and Time:  Must be completed within one year of start date.

Course Description: This course presents the travel and tourism destinations of the Eastern Hemisphere studied from a travel industry perspective. Maps are studied with an orientation to location of each country and its major city(s). The course treats physical, locational, and cultural geography as a travel sales product.

 

Travel Reservations

Day and Time: Must be completed within one year of start date.  
Location: Print Correspondence, Self-paced
Cost: $195
Course Description: Travel Counseling skills, including sales and customer service are brought up to date for today's travel professional. Product knowledge of air travel, hotel accommodations, car rental, rail travel, tours and cruises is presented in great detail. Application exercises provide practice using the major industry reference materials for all reservations procedures. Sales techniques are included with booking procedures. This course is a prerequisite/co-requisite to Computer Reservation System.

 

Leisure Travel

Day and Time: Must be completed within one year of start date.  
Location: Print Correspondence, Self-paced

Cost: $195
Course Description:  Current trends and tourism research in the leisure travel market take this text beyond the basics of travel reservations. The components include the leisure traveler, top leisure destinations, current cruise trends, the present and future trends in tours, including adventure tours and ecotourism. Leisure services such as groups, incentives and travel insurance are discussed.

 

Fares and Tickets

Day and Time: Must be completed within one year of start date.

Cost: $195
Course Description: This course includes both international and domestic airfares and tickets. The faring portion includes terms, rules, fare calculation and transportation taxes. Ticketing includes ticket preparation, interpretation, conjunction tickets, MCOs, Tour Orders, PTAs, forms of payment, charges, refunds, and exchanges. This course is a prerequisite/co-requisite to Computer Reservations Systems.

 

Computer Reservations System: Sabre?  Apollo? Worldspan?

Cost: $365
Course Description: Computer Reservations System - The course covers all the terms, codes, commands, and functionality required to create passenger name records (PNRs), quote airfares, and price and ticket domestic itineraries. These functions include: availability, domestic fare quote, sell, price domestic itineraries, and cancellation and modification of air segments, car rental segments, and hotel room segments.
