Summer Session I ♦ April 29 - May 18, 2013 ♦ Six Credits

During visits to Berlin Germany, Weimar Germany, and Prague Czech Republic students will experience the history, politics, religion and economic differences through books, films, museums, and site visits. When combined with the required on-campus coursework,this trip will provide a diverse blend of traditional academics and real world experience on which to base an informed, cultural assessment of propaganda art. Upon personal reflection and completion of coursework, students will gain a deeper understanding of the importance and historic value of propaganda art as well as a broadened global perspective for life.

Courses (3 credits each):

EGC 311 - Global Issues: Study Abroad Germany and 
                  Czech Republic

ART 390 - Graphic Design and Propaganda Art

General Itinerary:

Winter 2013 Preliminary Meetings (dates to be announced):

  • Practical details (securing a passport, etc.)
  • Academic material (e.g., assigned reading)

Summer Session I:

Week 1:  Daily on-campus coursework

Week 2 - 3:  Travel in Germany and Czech Republic

Week 4 - 5:  In Durango, complete coursework (research, journal, academic papers)

Program Costs and Payment Deadlines:

Best Faith Estimate of Total Cost:  $5,848*

   * Native Tuition Waiver applies for qualified students; $810 tuition is
      waived, making total estimated cost $5,038

Total cost includes Fixed Costs (payable to FLC per below schedule) and out of pocket expenses of $1,650 which will be purchased separately by students. The out of pocket costs are for books, airfare (US to Berlin and return flight from Prague to US), transportation from Berlin Airport to the railway station, all lunches, snacks and most dinners.

Payable to Fort Lewis College at the Cashier Window:

$1,500   DUE BY January 15, 2013  (Nonrefundable deposit)

$1,738   DUE February 15 , 2013 (Balance of up-front Fixed Costs)

$960 **  DUE March 15, 2013 (Tuition/fees for six credits)
  ** Qualified Native American students pay just $150 fees

Payments to FLC cover the following fixed costs:

  • 12 Nights accommodation, double occupancy (three or four-star hotels with private facilities)
  • Daily breakfast and three group dinners
  • Transportation in Europe (rail, metro, and public or charter bus)
  • Tours of Berlin, Weimar, and Prague 
  • English-speaking escorts and guides throughout travel
  • Admission fees to museums and monuments
  • Tuition for six credits

Paperwork for students travelling outside the USA

Registration:

Your first step is to contact faculty to be accepted in the Innovative Month Program. Next, visit the FLC Cashier in Berndt Hall to pay your deposit. Complete the registration form (linked above)  -- registrations and payments CANNOT be done on WebOpus. Completed forms are to be delivered to to the Office of Continuing Education as soon as possible.

We strongly recommend you contact faculty and/or your academic advisor to verify the offered courses are compatible with your degree track.

Tuition & Fees For All Students:
$135 (tuition) + $25 (fees)  = $160 Total per Credit

Native American Tuition Waiver
Eligible Native students pay fees of $25 per credit ($135 per credit is waived) plus the regular program costs for travel, lodging, etc., associated with their select Program.
