This is a photography class for people who love gardens and flowers and it’s a class for photographers who are interested in learning to see old things with new eyes.

Participants will spend a weekend exploring and contemplating the delights of spring and the magic of new flowers in the secluded and tranquil gardens of Blue Lake Ranch, located near Hesperus, CO. We will be using our cameras as “Zen tools,” which will help us explore ways of experiencing our subjects through the lens of Beginner’s Mind and focusing on seeing everyday beauty with the eyes of our hearts. We will play with mindfulness techniques as they relate to the practice of photography and discuss practical aspects of photography related to learning how to do or how to improve one’s flower imagery and macro photography.

$50.00 per person is included in the class fee for use of the gardens and facilities of Blue Lake Ranch, and includes lunch on Saturday and Sunday. The last class on Friday, May 30, held on FLC campus, will be for “show and tell.” Bring yourself and an open mind!

Dr. Robert Bridges

Robert is academically trained in philosophy, theology, and psychology, and holds a Ph.D. in the Psychology of Religion. His principal educational experience, however, comes from spending hours on his knees in the dirt, learning patience and humility, watching the dance of movement and light, exploring and enjoying the sensuality of the moment, asking himself “what if,” and trying to see with ‘beginner’s mind’ as if through the eyes of a child. He has found that art is increasingly a process of opening the self-such that more often the medium becomes less obvious and the light within more luminous.

Robert is a former member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and spent years working as an editorial, stock, and commercial photographer. He has taught photography at various community colleges in Colorado and New Mexico and his work has been used in numerous publications.
