Cooperative Education Application Process

There are several items that must be completed to participate in a Cooperative Education placement. Once all items have been completed and turned into the Career Services Office, 3rd Floor Reed Library, you will receive permission to register.

First Step:  Complete all items below - 1-6.

All 5 items must be completed, including required signatures, and should be submitted to Career Services, 3rd floor Reed Library.

  1. On-line Application – A file is started for you in the Career Services Office.
  2. Job Description (PDF: fill out on-line and then print) – A job description must be approved and on-file in the Career Services Office.  You may use this link for a job description form, or you may submit a copy of a job description from the employer. (The position must be approved by the Director of the Career Services Office.)
  3. Learning Objectives & Guidelines (pdf: fill out on-line and then print) – This is a more comprehensive description of what you hope to gain from the experience than what you completed on the on-line application.  In your final paper you are required to significantly and substantially address your learning objectives, so be accurate and clear when developing them.  The learning objectives must also link to your academic and/or career goals. (The Cooperative Education Instructor will sign this form after you submit the learning objectives.) Sample Learning Objectives
  4. Student/Employer Work Agreement (pdf: print and fill out) – This is a record of the agreement with the employer showing when you will work and any additional expectations. This form must be signed by your employer.  If you are taking an assignment outside of the immediate area, we will accept this form via fax with the original to follow via regular mail.
  5. Create or update your Skyhawks Job Source Profile
  6. Resume – You will need a professional resume before you may apply for a Cooperative Education position.  Work with the Career Services Office to develop a clean, concise resume that documents your experience, education and skills. Click here for resources to help you develop your resume, cover letter, and more.

For Your Employer

There are some expectations of your employer too.

  • You, the student, will be expected to discuss all of the above items with the employer.  (A letter that includes a copy of your learning objectives will be sent to your employer; however, you are encouraged to discuss these with your employer in number 4 of the initial process.)
  • The employer is expected to complete a mid-term and final evaluation.

Register for Credit

Once you have completed the above items and the job description has been approved, you are able to register for the academic credit.  Speak with the Career Services Office advisor to obtain registration information.

All Cooperative Education classes – Coop Ed 200, Coop Ed 300 and Coop Ed 400 – are accessed through Moodle.  Moodle is an on-line program for distance or non-classroom based classes.  Once you are registered in a Cooperative Education course, you can log into the Moodle syllabus and follow the assignments.   The Cooperative Education Faculty Instructor will work with you throughout the term to help you have a great experience and assist you should any problems arise.
