Services for Students & Alumni

Students or alumni can obtain help by scheduling an Appointment. Appointments with a professional career counselor are available to all students and alumni to discuss any career issue. To schedule an appointment either stop by the Career Services Office, 230 Miller Student Center, or call 247-7562. All appointments are half an hour. Longer appointments may be scheduled if necessary.

The Skyhawks Job Source
for full-time, professional, internship, and part-time positions.

Our new on-line, web-based system allows students to search for positions, post resumes and cover letters for employers to view.  The system also allows students to apply for positions on-line.  Students who up-load a resume to the site will be included in candidate searches by employers and by the Career Services Office.  Students can keep track of and manage their job search activities as well.

Once a student is registered, they can up-date their profile every term or year, add new resumes, delete old ones, and stay current with programs such as workshops and on-campus recruiters; and events such as career days and the Etiquette Dinner offered by the Career Services Office at Fort Lewis College.

Appointments

Appointments can be made to discuss the following topics or issues:

Assessments  We offer a variety of assessment instruments, ranging in cost from $2.00 to $25.00 for FLC students and alumni, which help you focus on career information.  You must schedule an appointment prior to taking any assessment. Telephone appointments may be scheduled for anyone who is out of the area.

Discover is an on-line assessment program for Fort Lewis College students.  You can log into the program as follows:  username: FLC-yourstudentID#. (ex. FLC-900200000) You will set your own password the first time you use the program.

Selecting a Major or Minor  You may receive assistance in making a decision about your academic and/or career goals. We have resources that will help you learn about yourself and about your options in order to make decisions that are exciting to you.

Selecting a Career Direction  You may receive assistance in making a decision about your academic and/or career goals. We have resources that will help you learn about yourself and about your options in order to make decisions that are exciting to you.

Job Search Help  There is no single right way to conduct a job search. You will find many situations that require you to make a decision, or use your judgment instead of following a prescribed process. Being able to answer some questions will help you achieve your goal of being offered the position that you want.

Graduate School Information  If you intend to attend graduate school, the planning process ideally should begin in the junior year depending upon when you plan to pursue graduate education. Materials related to the graduate school search are available in the Resource Center.

Employment  There are many services designed to assist you in obtaining employment. Mentioned above are individual appointments and the Career Resource Center. In addition, the Career Services Office sponsors employers for On-campus Recruiting, Information Tables, and Information Sessions. All positions posted through the Career Services Office are listed under Employment Opportunities. The Etiquette Dinner is also a recruiting avenue for employers, so attendance during your senior year is important. See information on the Skyhawks Job Source above.

The Career Resource Center is located in 230 Miller Student Center and is available during working hours, 8 a.m. – Noon, 1:00 p.m. - 5 p.m. (Summer hours 7:30 a.m. – Noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.), on a walk in basis. Information on all aspects of career choices, employment, and graduate school can be accessed on a walk-in basis.

Contributing to Career Choices are the Seminars offered through the office. A variety of seminars are offered throughout the Fall and Winter terms that will help you create a professional presentation. The seminars offered are Resume, Cover Letters, Interview Process, Career Planning, Job Search, CRE (Career Related Experiences), Graduate School, and Summer Jobs.
