Chemists conduct research to develop processes to save energy and reduce pollution, they monitor and test industry products to insure industry and government standards are met. Chemistry is a major branch of the physical sciences and involves the study of substances and energy. It focuses on their composition, characteristics, changes, reactions, uses, and their benefits and dangers to mankind. Major sub-branches within chemistry include inorganic and organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, applied chemistry, bio-chemistry, and physical chemistry.
