Registering with Career Services

When & Why

When you begin your senior year, or your last year of college (that means 12 months prior to your actual graduation), you are encouraged to register with the Career Services Office.

Employer Matching System (EMS):  Frequently employers contact the Career Services Office seeking a list of candidates for vacancies they have.  If you are registered your name will be sent to the employers if there is a match with position, major and geographic preferences.  The EMS is becoming a very popular service with employers, so it is to your advantage to be registered.  This service is free.

On-Campus Recruiting:  After you register, you are then eligible to participate in on-campus recruiting, which is when various employers come to FLC seeking candidates to fill specific job openings.

Registration

There are two types of registrations: one for students in the Teacher Education Program and one for students at large (not in Teacher Ed).

Helpful Hints for Completing Your Resume File

Position Selection: It is important when completing the registration form that you select up to five position titles that interest you. You may be broad in this selection (e.g. sales position). This does not indicate whether you want financial sales, retail sales etc. Therefore, any sales positions would be either sent to you, or your information sent to the employer.

Geographic Area: When selecting your geographic preferences we suggest that you use the broadest possible geographic area possible unless you are absolutely committed to a particular geographic area. The wider your geographic scope the more positions you will have the opportunity for which to be considered.

Physical Components:  There is a physical file created. In the file you can place some copies of your resume which you are expected to up-date whenever you change your resume. A list of the names, titles, addresses of 3 to 5 references should be placed in the resume file as well. These items will be used with the Employer Matching System.

Receiving a Job Offer

Whether the job is a result of something that happened through Career Services or not, we are interested in knowing when you accept a position. Please complete the Employment Upon Graduation Survey when you have finished your job search.
