The Office of Financial Aid reserves the right to review, adjust or cancel awards at any time due to changes in financial, marital, transportation or academic status. All awards are contingent upon the availability of funds and are subject to change if necessary.
USE OF FUNDS: Student aid funds are made available for purposes directly related to obtaining an education at Fort Lewis College. This includes: tuition, fees, books and supplies, basic living expenses and modest personal expenses. Use of these funds for purposes other than the above will be considered cause for revocation of any assistance offered.
DISBURSEMENTS: Student aid funds will be first used to meet tuition, fees and other institutional charges. Any remaining grant, scholarship or loan funds will be made available on the first day of classes at the Cashier’s Office. Financial aid disbursements are initially based on hours enrolled for on Census Date each term. Work study funds must be earned and are not available until the student begins working. More detailed information is sent out to work study recipients in July each year.
COSTS: Costs reported on the award notification are estimated costs based on average direct costs associated with attending Fort Lewis College.
LOANS: If you have been awarded a loan, you must sign a promissory note online before it will be credited to your account. You will be notified when your promissory note is available. Lenders are required to do credit checks on all parent PLUS loan borrowers. If you were offered loans, the enclosed loan application provides more detailed information about loan requirements.
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS: Students must maintain at least a 2.00 (“C”) grade point average (GPA). Students receiving scholarships must maintain the GPA and credit hours required by the donor. Recipients of Fort Lewis College scholarships renewed by the Office of Financial Aid must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA. You must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per term to receive most types of aid. If you enroll for less than 12 hours you must notify the Office of Financial Aid in writing prior to the start of the term. Students not maintaining required hours and/or GPA’s are subject to probation and/or suspension.
MEASURABLE PROGRESS: A student receiving financial aid is required to be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program. The student may receive financial aid for up to 150% of the length of their program. The student must be making measurable progress toward this educational goal.
APPEALS: All financial aid eligibility determinations are subject to review. Appeals should be made in writing and submitted to the Office of Financial Aid.
WITHDRAWALS: A student who totally withdraws from school is obligated to notify the Office of Financial Aid prior to withdrawal. If a student is eligible for a tuition refund, any amount paid by financial aid funds will be returned to the appropriate account. Tuition refunds for Federal Family Education Loan Program recipients will be returned directly to the lending institution. Repayment of any other fund is determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Students who totally withdraw are subject to probation and/or suspension as stated in the Satisfactory Progress Policy.
