POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT–MICROBIOLOGY/IMMUNOLOGY

POSITION: Assistant Professor of Biology

LOCATION: Department of Biology, School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences, Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO 81301. Fort Lewis College is a public, 4-year, undergraduate, liberal arts college comprised of a School of Humanities and Social Sciences, a School of Business Administration, and a School of General and Exploratory Studies in addition to the School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences. APPOINTMENT: Eight-month, tenure track to start August 31, 2009 (contingent on funding).

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: 1) Ph.D. in microbiology, immunology, or closely related field, 2) College or university teaching experience, 3) Post-doctoral research or equivalent post-graduate experience in microbiology or related field. Highly desirable: 1) Ability to secure extramural funding, 2) Demonstrated knowledge of modern techniques in teaching undergraduate biology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching load is 12 credit hours (average of 18 contact hours/week) per term. Successful applicant must be qualified to teach Microbiology and Immunology. Additional teaching responsibilities will include introductory biology lectures and laboratories, upper division biology courses in his/her area of expertise, and/or interdisciplinary general education for non-majors. The department desires candidates with an interest in mentoring summer undergraduate researchers, and who can generate extramural funding for their research program. Successful candidates must participate in departmental and College governance and professional service.
