During the school year, the EC has a full-time coordinator, Rebecca Schild, and intern who assist student teams that coordinate and run all of our projects and programs. Students in each team set their own goals for the semester, decide on strategies, and divide up work among themselves.
Staff teams for the 2011-2012 school year include:
Media and Communications – This team keeps the campus and community updated on environmental news by producing the EC’s weekly radio program Making Waves, running a blog, writing articles for the Independent and Durango Herald, and organizing other media projects.
Education and Outreach – This team plans campus and community events, gets the word out about EC activities, and helps match interested students with opportunities for action through the EC. Last year the education and outreach program also worked with schools and youth programs in La Plata County.
Zero-Waste – This team works to move Fort Lewis toward becoming a zero-waste campus. They run the EC laser and ink jet recycling program, are working toward implementing composting for campus dining, hold a Free Store every other week, and supports the city and county as they move toward zero-waste.
Campus Sustainability – This team works to help implement Fort Lewis College's sustainability commitments. Currently, they are completing an audit of the Campus Sustainability Action Plan and the annual greenhouse gas inventory.
Local Food – The food team runs the EC’s demonstration organic garden and greenhouse and works on getting fresh, locally-produced, and organic food on campus and into FLC’s cafeteria and snack bar.
Sustainable Business - This team is working with the community to develop a Resource-Smart Business program for local businesses in La Plata County.
Weekly staff meetings, lunches, and social events bring everyone connected with EC together and help build a stronger community.
