9/22/2014 12:00 PM Danny Chacon- author on campus Daniel Chacón is author of Hotel Juárez: Stories, Rooms, and Loops (2013). His collection of short stories, Unending Rooms, won the 2008 Hudson Prize. He also has a novel, And the shadows took him, and another collection of stories called Chicano Chicanery. Chacón is recipient of The Hudson Prize, a Chris Isherwood Foundation Grant, The American Book Award, and the Peter and Jean de Main Emerging Writers Award, among others.

Will be in El Centro from 12PM to 1PM for Charla, Q&A, and lunch.

Will also be doing a reading later in the day from 5:30PM to 6:30PM in Noble 130

10/13/2014 10:00 AM Real History of the Americas on Columbus Day A collaborative group of Fort Lewis College cultural centers, students and staff proudly presents the 7th annual “Real History of the Americas” program on Columbus Day 2014. This unique program runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, October 13th, at the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College. A culminating evening show will featuring our amazing guest performers at 6 p.m. The public is welcome anytime.

The Real History of the Americas takes a positive, but different look at the history of North and South America from the viewpoints of Hispanic, African-American, Asian, and Native peoples, among others. On display will be, poetry, film, dance and live music! In 2012, Amy Goodman from Democracy Now! was here for a live interview before the event, for more on that, see:

Guest performers for this year include Sister Outsider Poetry and “SupaMan” – both incredibly talented acts with unique contributions toward a socially just society. Sister Outsider Poetry is an award-winning, nationally recognized spoken word duo comprised of Dominique Christina and Denice Frohman. They are poets, educators, activists, writers and performance artists, or

“SupaMan” is Christian Parrish, a champion powwow fancy dancer who identifies as Apsáalooke American Indian from the Crow Nation Reservation near Billings, Montana. In March, MTV named him Artist of the Week for his unique rap music featuring a traditional Native American drum loop. See his work at: or
