Exercise Science - Exercise Specialist Option

fitness testDo you enjoy working with and motivating people. Do you want to know how to design training programs and help people set and achieve their goals?

This option is designed for those students who are interested in the Fitness Industry.  The career paths afforded by this option are numerous and varied.  You may choose to pursue personal training, strength and conditioning, fitness center management, health promotion or gerontology fitness.  Regardless of which direction you decide to pursue, certification is a must.  Students enrolled as Exercise Specialists have the option of taking the National Council on Strength and Fitness Certification exam in their senior year.  You will also complete an Internship in your chosen area of study which many students say is the best experience of their college career.  It is not unusual for the internship to lead to your first job.

The employment outlook for students who choose this career path is bright.  Exercise is Medicine according to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts fitness jobs will increase faster than the average of all occupations over the next ten years.
